Ch. 2: Introduction to the Guild

At the start of the chapter, you'll be back where your Partner was in the beginning, at Wigglytuff's Guild. Your Partner will walk up to the grate and will then be identified by the Diglett lurking underneath. Your Partner will then instruct you to step over the grate as well, and the scene will show Diglett down there talking to an unknown Pokemon about your identification.

Then, the gates will open, and the two of you will enter the Wigglytuff-shaped building and climb down the ladder. Down there, you will see a few Pokemon sprawling around. A Chatot will then show up and introduce itself, and after some more dialogue, Chatot will lead you over to Wigglytuff's room to get enlisted as a Exploration Team.

Inside of Wigglytuff's room, Wigglytuff will introduce himself as the leader of the Guild, and will eventually get around to asking what your Team Name is. Your Partner will turn to you and ask you for what your Team Name should be. Come up with something (again, 5 characters, and you can use English letters), and then Wigglytuff will accept that and give you the Pokemon Exploration Team Kit, which contains an Exploration Team Badge, a Mystery Map, and a Treasure Bag. Wigglytuff will then explain what each of the items do.

Inside of the Treasure Bag, there is a Defense Scarf and a Deep Blue Ribbon, which are items that you can equip to your Pokemon. You will handle this later, though. Afterward, Chatot will take you to your sleeping quarters, where you and your Partner will rest.

While the two of you are resting, your Partner will still be awake and ask to see if you are as well. You're still soundly asleep, but your Partner will talk about you and about joining the Guild and a bunch of other stuff. Then, your Partner will get tired, and the screen will fade away, asking you if you'd like to save your game.

After being asked to save, you'll receive some advice for Exploration Teams, telling you that you can save your game by going to the bed.

The next day, you'll be awakened by a very loud Pokemon. Can you guess what it is? Yup, it's a Loudred, and he tells you to go outside for some sort of gathering. Something for all of the members in the Guild or something.

Outside, Chatot will instruct everyone to sing in front of Wigglytuff, and they'll do so. They'll then disperse, giving you brief control over your Team. If you try walk in pretty much any direction, though, Chatot will lead you over to the bulletin board and will talk about Mystery Dungeons and stuff. He will then give you a message from a Spoink that has lost its pearl down there and will instruct you to go to the dungeon.

You'll then go with your Partner to the dungeon, and before entering, your Partner will tell you that the item is on B7F, which means the 7th floor down, if you haven't figured it out by now.

Damp Rocky Area

Some of the Pokemon that will show up here are Shellos (Pink), Anorith, Lileep, and from B5F and down, Chingling.

Now that you are in a dungeon, you should quickly equip the Defense Scarf and Deep Blue Ribbon that you got earlier. The Defense Scarf boosts your Defense by a bit, and the Deep Blue Ribbon raises all of your stats by a small amount. Giving a Pokemon the Defense Scarf will cause it to take close to no damage from the attacks down here, whereas giving it the Deep Blue Ribbon will cause it to do a bit more damage with your attacks. The choice is yours whether you prefer offense or defense.

Also, now that you have the Treasure Bag, you can pick up items that are on the ground (there will be quite a bit more of them now) and add them to your inventory. You can only hold a maximum of 20 items in your inventory, though, so you may need to throw some certain things away.

Some of the items that you might find on the ground look like Seeds. Most are probably Blast Seeds, which cause some damage when thrown forward (it will hit any Pokemon straight ahead of you), although some might be other types of Seeds that inflict other assorted effects. Except for the Reviver Seeds, which you probably won't encounter at this point, most are probably best used to be thrown, especially if you aren't familiar what the exact effect is.

Elixirs look like little bottles of medicine, and when used, they will restore all of your PP so you can use your attacks some more. They're very handy and a near-necessity in longer dungeons. Try to keep one or two of these in reserve.

The rocks on the ground can be picked up as an item and thrown at distant Pokemon to inflict damage. Unlike Seeds and other items, these will be lobbed in the air when thrown, so they won't be intercepted by anything between you and the target. They don't do a ton of damage, but they can be nice for softening up your adversaries from a distance before you get into the actual fight. This is a good item at this point to set with L + R. You can do this by choosing Register (fourth option) while having them selected in the items menu. Then, similarly to setting an attack to use with L + A, you will throw the set item by pressing L + R.

Apples and Big Apples help restore your Belly, which starts at 100 and goes down after every few actions you make. If your Belly reaches 0, you'll start to take damage pretty rapidly, so you'll want to have a few Apples and Big Apples in your inventory to prevent this from happening.

Lastly, there are Gummis, which look like little jellybeans of assorted colors. These are used on any of the Pokemon in your Team to help raise their Intelligence, allowing them to use more advanced tactics. Depending on the Pokemon's type, certain Gummies may have more or less of an effect, and some may even raise a stat by a point, permanently!

Anyway, make your way through the dungeon, which shouldn't be too much more difficult than the first one, especially if you equipped one of the items that you got at the Guild. As you reach B5F, you'll start to encounter Chinglings, which can stun you with their attacks and hit you for more than the other Pokemon usually do, but they don't do it all that often. The stunning is annoying, though, but like I said, they aren't a major threat.

Get to B7F (you should hopefully gain a level or two on your way), you will find the treasure that you came for — Spoink's Pearl. You'll then be taken back to the Guild after getting the Pearl, and Spoink will be there to thank you. The Spoink will generously reward you with a Protein, an Iron, and a Calcium — all of these raise your Pokemon's stats. It will also give you 2000 Poke, much to your Partners surprise. Of course, good things don't last, and Chatot will come over and take Wigglytuff's cut of the payment — all but 200 Poke. Oh well, better than nothing, right?

Afterward, a Chimecho will chime in and let everyone know that a feast is ready, and then you'll see all of the Pokemon in the Guild munching down on a banquet of food. Then, you and your Partner will return back to the sleeping quarters, and after talking to itself again alone for awhile, you'll move on to the next day and the next chapter.
