Pokemon Pinball Ruby and Sapphire is one of those games that you just plain and simple can't put down. It's indescribably addictive, and will keep you entertained for hours on end.
Pinball R/S is definitely a great improvement over the previous Pinball installment for the Gameboy Color. Now you can catch all 200 Pokemon featured in Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire, which believe me, will definitely take a long, long time to do. There's also another way to catch Pokemon: Hatch Mode! In Hatch Mode, a Baby or Bottom-stage Pokemon will hatch from an egg and wander around the field, and you'll have to hit it twice in order to catch it.
If you are unfamiliar with Pokemon Pinball, fear not. Even a beginner could pick up this game and learn how to play within a few minutes. It's as simple as hitting the button that corresponds to the left flipper or the right flipper. That simple. You can also use the other buttons to tilt the table, causing the PokeBall to change direction. All of the buttons can be set by the player to ensure maximum efficiency.
There are also plenty of Bonus Stages you can go to every time the Poke Balls below the Hole all light up. You'll light these up as you Catch or Evolve your Pokemon! The Bonus Stages are also very fun, and somewhat challenging at times. The Bonus Stages give you more points than everything on the field put together!
Pinball R/S is definately a must-have game if you're a pinball wizard, or even if you just like Pokemon! It will keep you entertained for hours on end, and every minute played will be very enjoyable (well, until you realize your Ball Saver wasn't activated).
Helpful Tips
- The two tables are very different. The Sapphire table has the incredibly useful Zigzagoon, which will stop the Slot Bonus when you hit A (as opposed to having no control where it stops); the Ruby table has Makuhita, which serves as an extra flipper on the right hand side, and it can be really helpful when you're going through a loop to score Coins and Ball Upgrades.
- There are a total of 6 Bonus Stages in the game; 2 are unique to the current Table. On the Ruby Table, you'll first play the Kecleon Bonus, then the Groudon Bonus; on the Sapphire table, you'll first play the Dusclops Bonus, and, after you've caught 3 more Pokemon, the Kyogre Bonus. You can play the Spheal Bonus stage by either having Pelipper carry you away on the Sapphire Table, or by having Whiscash swallow you up and take you underwater on the Ruby Table. Lastly there's the Rayquaza Bonus Stage. You can only access the Rayquaza Bonus Stage after beating the Kecleon/Dusclops and Groudon/Kyogre Bonus Stages twice in a row, then entering the Hole after you've caught 3 more Pokemon.
- Below are the amount of points you'll earn when you complete each Bonus Stage. Remember, if you have an Upgraded Ball, you'll earn 2x, 3x, and maybe even 4x the amount listed below!
- Kecleon Bonus Stage: 30,000,000
- Dusclops Bonus Stage: 30,000,000
- Groudon Bonus Stage: 50,000,000
- Kyogre Bonus Stage: 50,000,000
- Rayquaza Bonus Stage: 99,999,999
- Spheal Bonus Stage: 1,000,000 for each Poke Ball through the hoop, and 5,000,000 for each Spheal through the hoop.
- Remember, try to get the "Pika!" Slot Bonus as soon as you can. Buy it from the Mart if you have to. It's extremely important to make sure both sides of the gutters are guarded at all times! Otherwise, you'll end up losing a lot of Poke Balls due to Pikachu not having enough electricity (which you can get by going around the loop).
- You can buy an Extra Ball for 99 coins at the Mart! You can also earn an Extra Ball from the Slot Bonus when you light up H-O-L-E, and from catching a total of 15 Pokemon.
- You can catch Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza in this game! Every second time you complete their Bonus Stage, instead of them escaping, you'll catch them with your Poke Ball! You'll also earn an additional 10,000,000 points for capturing Groudon or Kyogre, and an additional 30,000,000 points for capturing Rayquaza.
- You can catch Latias and Latios in this game as well! On extremely rare occasions you'll encounter Latias (on the Sapphire Table) or Latios (on the Ruby Table) when you're attempting to catch a Pokemon. Keep in mind, there's roughly a 1% chance of encountering them, so you may have to spend a lot of time playing the game before you'll find either one of them!
- There's a rare location in the game: the Ruins. You'll have to do a lot of travelling before you'll find the Ruins, but when you do, you'll be able to catch Regirock, Regice, Registeel, and Beldum!
- Also, in the Ruins, randomly on the Slot Bonus you'll notice a strange green Reel with the word Arrival on it next to the 201st (Hoenn-dex) Pokemon, Jirachi. If you land the Slots on that, Jirachi will appear and float around the course, and you'll be able to catch it by hitting it 3 times. Be warned, you'll only have 30 seconds to try and catch Jirachi, so try to capture it as fast as you can!
