These are the games that started it all... Pokemon Red and Blue! Even though they may be the oldest of the Pokemon games, they still are very fun! You can catch, train, and battle 151 different creatures called "Pokémon" (short for "Pocket Monsters", it's japanese name). You go around catching Pokemon, and earning Badges... Gotta Catch 'em All!
Mini-Walkthrough
Boulder Badge
- You'll start your journey in Pallet Town. Your first stop should be to Professor Oak's Lab where you will pick your starter Pokemon.
- Bulbasaur is a solid choice for beginners, although it lacks access to a lot of good moves. It is good against a lot of the early Gym Leaders and can cripple your opponent with moves that inflict status ailments.
- Charmander is the most difficult starter to start with due to its weakness to early Gym Leaders, but in the middle of the game to the end, it will be very powerful and have access to many strong TM moves.
- Squirtle is probably your best choice if you're new to Red and Blue. It is great against the first two Gym Leaders. Although you may run into problems with the third Gym Leader's Electric-type Pokemon, it can learn a lot of good TM moves like Ice Beam, not to mention Surf.
- The best way to beat him is to use your primary attack continuously.
- Head north to Viridian City, then talk to the shop owner in the Poke Mart to receive Oak's Parcel. You can't go anywhere else for now, so head back to Pallet Town and give Professor Oak the Parcel.
- Professor Oak will give you and your Rival the Pokedex. You'll also get some Poke Balls if you talk to Professor Oak's Aide, although you'll need to buy the rest yourself in Viridian City.
- Head north to Viridian City, catching Pokemon if you'd like. It's best if you save your Poke Balls for right now to catch better Pokemon than Pidgey and Rattata.
- Buy some Poke Balls and maybe a Potion or two in Viridian City, then head west.
I'll be adding more to this section later on. Nothing too thorough, but at least a little guide to help get you through the game!
